Paperclipping Romantic Scrapbooking Course LO2

I'm back already!  Just finished this layout for the Date Night Challenge as a part of the Romantic Scrapbooking Course at Paperclipping.  We do go on regular date nights and for the past year it has involved a lot of theatre because we have seasons tickets for a local theatre company here in Vancouver, BC.

We have a wonderful babysitter watch the kids and out them to bed for us while we go out for dinner and enjoy the latest production together.  I always feel so refreshed after these nights and it's a great way to connect with Mark and see how life is going (without all the inevitable interruptions that happen when you have three children under the age of 8).

The second layout talks about how many of our date nights also involve going to concerts.  We've always loved going to concerts; since when we first started dating as teenagers to now (late 30's).  I've listed some of the recent concerts we've been to and some of our favourite restaurants.

Loving this course for motivating me to get these layouts done.  I rarely scrap stories of just the two of us.

Thanks for dropping by,

Paperclipping Romantic Scrapbooking Course

I've been busy scrapbooking about me and my highschool sweetheart today.  I was inspired to get some stories and thoughts on paper after signing up for the Romantic Scrapbooking Course over at   I regularly listen to the Paperclipping Roundtable when I'm scrapbooking by myself - makes me feel like I'm at a crop and they're always a fun bunch to listen to.

There's a series of challenges throughout the course.  My take on the first challenge was based on relationship strengths. My layout includes a pocket with ten relationship tips.  It is based on a sketch by Creative Scrappers.  Mark and I have been married for 18 years and have been together for almost 23 years.   Still, it felt kind of funny writing them because I don't feel like an expert, but Noel's comment in the video about writing them to my kids worked for me.

My tips (in no particular order) are:
1.  Nurture your friendship.  Make sure you're getting updates and continue to get to know each other.
2.  Appreciate each other.  Be grateful; don't take your partner for granted.  Remember to give compliments.
3.  Compromise.  Practice not being stubborn on issues you don't feel extremely invested in.
4.  Don't take yourself too seriously- remember to laugh.
5.  Always make time for date nights.  They're like oxygen for a marriage.
6.  Go on adventures together; experience new things together.  It strengthens your bond (not to mention fun!)
7.  It's the little things that make a difference.  Back massages, bringing a cup of tea (or wine!), little notes - all show that you love & appreciate each other.
8.  Memory keep.  Make a photo book of all the fun times you've had together (without the kids).  It's a wonderful reminder.
9.  Don't forget manners.  Sometimes we get so comfortable that we let this slide from time to time.
10.  Remember you're a team.  Have common goals and protect the refuge that you provide for each other.

Now I'm off to work on the next challenge....stay tuned.

Memory Workshop April 2014 Kit

My goal yesterday was to see if I could use up an entire kit in an afternoon. I managed to get five single page layouts completed - each took less than an hour.  I was scrapbooking while visiting family over the Easter weekend.  This forced me to stick with the kit contents.  There are a few bits from my stash but these layouts are made mostly using the April 2014 Memory Workshop Kit.

The last layout is based on Sketch 265 by Creative Scrappers.

I have quite a bit of cardstock left and lots from the Bo Bunny Ephemera package but otherwise I have used up the entire kit.  I have piles of kits - so I can't tell you how awesome that feels :-)

I can't believe what a difference it made not having my entire stash on hand.  Working with only the kit helped me finish my layouts at record speed for me.  Hope you like them!

Items used that were not in the kit were:
Dear Lizzy Hearts
Dear Lizzy Thickers
DIY Shop Burlap Bows
Amy Tangerine Ribbon
MME Wood Dots
MME Twine (no longer available for purchase)

Thanks for stopping by!

Creative Scrappers Sketch 265

I love using sketches to kick-start the creative process.  Creative Scrappers is one of my go-to places to get sketches and you can win prizes for participating - which is always a nice bonus for playing along!

Here's Sketch 265:

Here's my take; I used mostly a new collection called Boys Rule by Crate Paper, plus Pebbles patterned paper, flair by October Afternoon, cork by Scraptastic, wood veneer by Two Peas in a Bucket and banner by Evalicious.  Alphas are Thickers and October Afternoon.  I ended up doing a double layout:

Thanks for stopping by to view.  To see more takes on this sketch, visit Creative Scrappers website.

Close to My Heart Skylark Team Blog Hop

Hello & thanks for stopping by today.  Welcome to the Skylark Team Blog Hop!!  I'm SO happy the Skylark collection was chosen as it is one of my favourites in the Spring/Summer 2014 Catalogue.  I also wanted to say thank you to Pam Klassen for organizing this blog hop.  They're always a fun way to explore new blogs and it inspired me to get back to posting after a crazy few months.

I used the Skylark Paper Packet, Skylark Complements, Resin Flowers (teal), Twist Ties (slate), Shimmer Trim (teal), Dots (aqua) and Zipper Lace (lagoon).  I used other Close to My Heart items from my stash such as coordinating inks and hemp twine which I believe is no longer available to order (glad I stocked up!).  Everything coordinated so nicely.

I also love blog hops for the chance to win prizes!!  If you would like a chance to win a little prize, sign up to follow my blog by midnight on Sunday April 20th and you will be entered to win: the "You are My Happy" Stamp Set (Alphas, Icons & Sentiments), My Creations All-Sorts Mini Album, Glue Pen and an assortment of embellishments including ribbon, buttons and resin flowers.

My layouts came together quickly and I was on a mission to see how many layouts I could get out of one paper packet.  I'm at three layouts so far but have enough for 1-2 more.  I'm hoping to complete and post later this week because I'm on a roll :-)

For my first layout I used only the Skylark collection and some items from my stash (wood veneer, cork cameras, mists and vellum heart paper).  This layout was inspired by a recent layout by Mercy Tiara .

My second layout is quite simple and after looking at the photo for posting, I decided to add stitching.  The stitching added a little more interest to the layout.  My goal was to have straight lines but I need to practice - I'm not that good with the sewing machine :-)  Everything in this layout is from Close to My Heart.

I'm quite pleased with my third layout.  I believe it's the first time I've ever taken the photos, went straight to my printer and printed them and then sat at my desk and scrapped them while my daughter continued to nap - whoa!  I'm not sure that will ever happen again...but the stars aligned for me today.  All of the product is Close to My Heart except for the tags, the flair and the green numbers.

I am hoping to get some more scrapbooking in this week to finish off the paper packet - I'm so close!

For more inspiration, keep hopping over to Famida's blog to check out the gorgeous layout she created with Skylark.

Thanks again for hopping by :-)
